Feud between Mulgrew and Ryan

Image
#StarTrek ~ I'm so disappointed in Kate Mulgrew for being cross with Jeri Ryan. Ryan was used by the patriarchy to insert a 'babe' (yes, I personally heard them use this word in a documentary) into the show. Ryan did an admirable job of ignoring the myriad leering references to her appearance on the show by men from so many species. Mulgrew should know that you can't be upset with women for doing what they need to do. Don't infantilise women by saying they should say No. Their choice is their choice. And if you don't like it, suck it.

High Life (2019)

I love Juliette Binoche's bush. Oh my gosh, it's luxurious and fuckyouey in a world where Barbie has no nipples and no pussy and Barbie's name is used as a labiaplasty 'STYLE'. I love the 'Juliette', I wish for the 'Juliette'. The 'Juliette' reeks of abundance and agency, and it smells good. Thanks Juliette. #YouRock

Old movies, why people don't like them

Image
Night Must Fall (1964) Because clones, drones, and automobiles are missing. Everyone I know refuses to watch movies made before 2000. I've collected movies way back to the 40s. And I love them. You definitely can't watch them with a cell phone in front of your face. Don't get me wrong, I love new movies too. Many. I'm not too fond of the repetitive scores of many new movies. Do they pay musicians by the note! And the endless fight and chase scenes, they're all the same, just in one movie the guy hits up, in another movie he hits down. Snore. I do look down at my cellphone during these sorts of time-wasters. CGI makes up for it. If you look down at your cellphone while watching Albert Finney arrive at the mansion in Night Must Fall (1964) you'll miss the little over-excited jig he does at the gardner and all the increasing tell-tale signs of his intentions. And when would you see a post-2000 film where a young man so ominously wraps an old woman around...

Laura Dern

#Feminism. Laura Dern, "Reality television has opened a door for real women to appear on TV. Women are no longer imprisoned in have-to-be-sweet, no-temper, no-angry, no-personality boxes. People are getting used to the idea that women are people." #ParaphrasingGenius

Audrey Hepburn

#Feminism ~ Actors. Audrey Hepburn. This article takes a positive slant. I love Hepburn, but I don't think much of this article is believable except that most of her films turn her stories about love into stories about prey. Don't get me wrong, I do love the article, I see the old men paired with the teenage-looking and much-younger-in-years Hepburn. I see that she knew that her appearance-compliance as a fashion-window-doll makes (the patriarchy) treat you as a 'lady' ((god) I hate that term so much). I know My Fair Lady embodied that acquiescence to constructed femininity and that I read her end-face to know she knows that as a flower-girl she had her own agency. There are bits in this article perfectly valid. But on the whole I believe that simmering pedophilia and fashion coercion and overt #RapeCulture ruled every movie she was in. I guess this article represents the glass-half-full version the hordes coerce us into displaying. Almost an ironic reflection of Hepbur...

Woody Harrelson on Charlize Theron

Harrelson, “If you ask her to cry on cue, she asks, ‘Which eye?’”

Doris Day - Grrl counter-power

To be fair - it's difficult to think of a non-self-defining feminist woman as anything but a tool of the patriarchy. I have to concentrate on the fact that even though a woman would not call herself a feminist, she would never endorse  footbinding  (to name a radical example) and it doesn't necessarily mean she is a doormat either. In fact, some of my favorite women scorn my feminism and hate it when they are judged solely on their marital status or gender. Ironically if you look at films made during the so-called liberal 60s and 70s you will see that movies align the woman's role less to what is happening politically in the big wide world and more to what is happening in pornography. The rise of the snuff movie mirrored the rise of violence towards women in the movies, serial killer paradise. Pornography always centers on the woman - probably in an attempt to hide the size of the penis. From my perspective, I am less uncomfortable looking at vintage porn than  Emanuell...
