Identitypoliticking

Image
In watching #BlackLivesMatter I see how dismissive the term 'identity politics' is. "We can't talk about anything or get anywhere in discussions because of identity politics." Who is 'we'? 'We' who have the privilege to decide what is important and when someone is allowed to speak and what they are allowed to speak about.  When 'we' perpetrate violence by holding a (figurative/virtual/literal) bat over someone's head to say 'shut up', that is not conducive to them hearing the content of anything you have to say anyway. An inclusive and welcoming environment does not have to be crashed or boycotted or protested or derailed or identitypoliticked. These actions are your flag that your house is not order. Identitypoliticking is striking against 'we'. I believe in the people's right to strike. It is in their solidarity with each other that they are effective against 'we'. It is in their numbers th...

Predatory Romance in Blade Runner (1986)

Image
To all the people who know that Blade Runner is my favourite movie of all time. I was 19 when I saw this movie, and I was mindbound (like footbinding, see Mary Daly). The patriarchal narrative enveloped/s me. Even after 30 years of my own feminism. The patriarchy is insidious and systemic, and I have to work daily to find the nooks and crannies it lurks in. I was so in love with Harrison Ford. He was an embodiment of the men in the Mills & Boon I was reading. Craggy, bad-tempered, masculine. Ooh. And scifi was new to me. New on film to everyone. It was shiny, it was intellectual, it was engaging, it was Mills & Boon antidote. From when I was five (or that’s when I remember), I have been protesting the advances of men. I still did not see Sean Young protest. When I started to feel horny when I was young, I saw that women were NEVER allowed to want sex, NEVER ask for fingers in your vagina, NEVER ask for hands to touch your breasts, NEVER ask for a kiss, NEVER...

Tropes

#Feminism #Racism  Fridging ~ female or black characters who are injured, raped, killed, or disempowered sometimes to stimulate protective traits among men or whites. The fridging is a plot device intended to move a male or white character's story arc forward. (From a comic book story where a female character is killed and stuffed in a fridge.)

Abduction as Romance

Image
Loving the man-feminist  Pop Culture Detective  who shows us feminists here, that Abduction is framed as Romance in the movies. And while Kidnapping is a federal crime, the kidnapper-in-movies is dressed with hearts, empathy and flowers to overcome the sticky issue of #EnthusiasticConsent so that we women are not clear about what Red Flags really look like.  Not to mention the lack of clarity on what's not acceptable that is demonstrated to men. The blurry Red Flag makes men who can’t just ‘be nice’ and get women, instead they be awful and dream daily of just being able to abduct and rape.

Humanism sucks

#Feminism and why I hate humanism. "Humanism depends on the collective effort to nurture a motivational environment through 'dignity and reciprocity'." Yeah, that never happens when you're dealing with the entitled who use your-maintaining-dignity (no rage allowed no matter how much the patriarchy ignores my pleas) as an excuse for conflict-avoidance and reciprocity means you-do-it-my-way, ja-but, ja-but (but the patriarchal way has worked for thousands of years). Dignity and reciprocity all come from the oppressed and suppressed, 'or else'.

#MenAreTrash and mens' parade of excuses

"I had to rape her, she was wearing a miniskirt." "I had to be trashy, she called me trash." Just another blame shift from perpetrator to victim. Modus operandi. When we call them 'partner' they often don't behave like 'partner'. What do you suggest women do? Call them 'king'? How do we address the trashiness of men's behaviour? The #NotAllMen surely know this doesn't apply to them. Does the 'good man' in you say 'fuck it' when you know it doesn't apply to you? Is goodness not your pride to have? I don't feel slutty when men call women sluts and hoes and bitches. I go on being the person I am. Do you think men don't?

On white women throwing shitfits

Being rude is never right. And white women do have a slight advantage. I have been told by men that when they get angry things escalate much quicker. Another man will step in and violence erupts, so they hold themselves back. White women can get angry because it's unlikely someone will hit them, in public. So they are likely to right wrongs. They have the power to sit next to a person of color being harassed, or stand with a child being bullied, or rustle up the interest of a lazy rude fuck that's interrupting her busy two-job + housework + blow-job day. In private women get hit, so their silence is kept for their homes.

Review: Gerald’s Game (2017)

I met my match re Violence. I am inured, usually. Stephen King's story of a man stranded on a tiny desert island is one of my favorites, and Misery. But don't weave the two together and make the woman the story's focus through no fault of her own... yes, King blames her, but he doesn't understand Stockholm Syndrome, The Woman's Version. And I had to watch, to the last moment, such #Truth in relationships on film is compulsive watching. And compulsory for #Feminism. IMDB Gerald's Game (2017)  Actors: Carla Gugino, Carel Struycken Director: Mike Flanagan
